Red Rocks Records - the only reason that it developed is
Nick Bollinger didn't know who to ask permission to make a
record. EELMAN RECORDS© underwent a period of change
in the late 80's and 90's. This left a large gap in the identity
of who was administrating EELMAN. John Niland moved to Australia
in 1985 and pursued educational interests but maintained connections
to the core group with annual visits. In 1996 Nick Bollinger
decided to create Red Rocks Records, so that he could get
on with recording the musical interests and directions of
fellow Struggler members and develop further projects.
The first Red Rocks release was Home Truths (1996), a solo
album by Bill Lake, who had led the Pelicans, Living Daylights
and Windy City Strugglers. This album featured forteen new
Lake originals (many written in collaboration with longtime
songwriting partner Arthur Baysting) and included performances
by various Eelman associates including Stephen Jessup and
Richard Caigou. Subsequent Red Rocks releases have been two
albums by the Strugglers (On Top Of The World and Snow on
the Desert Road) and a solo album by Strugglers frontman and
longstanding New Zealand R&B figure Rick Bryant, entitled
Time.
Forthcoming Red Rocks releases will include a second solo
disc by Bill Lake (mid-2002), a 30-year retrospective of the
Strugglers, an album of children's songs by Arthur Baysting,
and a party album by the mysterious Ricky and the Resonators.
