The RANCHSLIDERS
were formed in 1984 for the sole purpose of humiliating their friends. Two years later, however, they began to develop into a more serious musical prospect-at times having to fight not to be taken too seriously ( humour is a large part of the band's philosophy).
After frequent playing in and out of Wellington over 18 months THE RANCHSLIDERS earnt a fair amount of respect well beyond that of a part time "fun" band.
Apart from their own gigs, support slots have included Al Hunter, Bill Direen, and The Holidaymakers. THE RANCHSLIDERS have the ability to entertain a wide range of audiences. Live appearances culminated in February (1985 or 1986) with their selection for orientation for Canterbury University.
THE RANCHSLIDERS have recorded a number of times. Their releases include a cassette (THE RANCHSLIDERS GO TO HOLLYWOOD) put out by the band themselves and included on Wellington's Eelman label [eelman 010]. One song was selected by student radio for inclusion on the SPINS AND NEEDLES compilation.
THE RANCHSLIDERS are presently looking for a way to get their latest recordings released in this country. The five new songs on the enclosed cassette were recorded at Wellington's Writhe and Frontier studios and produced by Mark Ingram (apologies for the third generation sound quality). Two new additions to the band and an entirely new set have meant that THE RANCHSLIDERS are temporarily out of action, but will soon be playing live again and better than ever.
